How It All Began
Dunamis Church and Ministries, Inc. was founded in August 2008 with four people. Abdullah and Marcia Birdsong had a vision of a different kind of church. A church for people who were tired of going to church. For several months, Bible Studies were held at the Birdsong’s home. The Word of God was taught with integrity, excellence, and passion. During this time of formation, Dunamis began to grow spiritually and numerically. After much prayer and fasting the decision was made to officially launch Dunamis Church. On April 5, 2009, Dunamis held its first Worship Encounter at Whitewater Academy Elementary School in Northwest Charlotte. More than 200 people attended the first service, during which many persons made decisions for Christ. Others rededicated their lives to Jesus Christ. While at Whitewater, Dunamis again grew spiritually and numerically. As a partner in education, Dunamis donated school supplies to children in need. In August 2009 Dunamis temporarily moved its Worship Encounters to BOLD Church’s facility in Southwest Charlotte. In August 2010, one year later, Dunamis moved into a 7,000 sqft ministry center in East Charlotte. Ministry growth continued with the addition of several new ministries for kids, men, and outreach. In September 2016 Dunamis again relocated to accommodate growth. Our new larger home in Mint Hill is equipped with adequate space for worship, prayer, Christian Education, and community outreach. Dunamis is an official partner of Lebanon Elementary School, a CMS school.
Looking Ahead
God’s vision for us is bold and audacious. Whether in Charlotte, around the U.S. or in the remote parts of the earth, our passion is to see the Church advance the Kingdom of God around the world through worship, teaching, evangelism and discipleship. The vision doesn’t stop with people gathering for weekly worship. Our dream is for community, city, and regional transformation-a movement that influences thousands of people. Our leadership is dedicated to training each member to reach those they influence. As we grow, we believe the number of unengaged and unreached people in our area will decrease and the name of Jesus will be glorified. In the brief history of Dunamis we have experienced God’s grace and favor. We will continue to exemplify God’s power and love while helping families experience His freedom and grace.
